Water Conductivity Meter
LED RESULTS
Using the LED Water Tester
Test the conductivity of the substance by immersing the tips of the two probes completely into the water to be tested. Note: When you dip the probes into the water hold the ON button in, this turns the LED green when in the air. Every test starts with a green light.
Observe and record the reaction of the LED.
Conductivity Meter with longer probes: Now its easier than
ever to use our Water Conductivity Meter! comes with longer probes
that makes it a simple task to get a good reading.
The LED (light emitting diode) indicates electric current in
the following way when both the probes are immersed in water. Note that when
you dip the probes into the water you are supposed to hold the ON button
inn, this turns the LED green when in the air. Therefore every test
starts with a green light.
- Green light (no change) - Non conductor (approximately 0 to 2 PPM)
- Dimmer green LED - the light gets gradually dimmer until it shuts off.
- No light (the LED turns off) - Weak conductor (approximately 10 to 12 PPM)
- Red light (the LED changes to red)- Stronger conductor (approximately 15
and more PPM)
A popular scale used by water treatment specialists is parts per million (PPM)
of total dissolved solids (TDS). When using TDS scales, it must be remembered
that TDS readings are only approximate. PPM or TDS is a measurement by weight
for a given volume of a specific solution (sodium chloride, potassium chloride,
etc.) Natural water contains a mixture of different dissolved solids (salts).
Because these salts have different electrical conductivity values, we use an
"average" to express PPM.

Using the LED Water Conductivity Meter
- Test the conductivity of the substance by immersing the tips of the two
probes completely into the water to be tested. Note that when you dip the
probes into the water you are supposed to hold the ON button inn,
this turns the LED green when in the air. Therefore every test starts with
a green light.
- Observe and record the reaction of the LED.
- Before testing the next substance, rinse the two probes by immersing them
in water (deionized or distilled) twice and blott the excess
water from the probes with tissue.
- In order to observe the LED better you may want to turn off or dim the lights
when doing the experiment.
- Maintenance: It is important to keep the probes from corrosion.
If corrosion should occur, the corrosion should be carefully removed with
a wooden toothpick.
- Testing: Test the instrument by pressing the button, the
LED should turn green when in the air. In addition you can test it further
by touching the tips of the two probes to a coin or a peace of metal. If the LED Water Conductivity Meter is working properly, the LED
will glow red.
Possible Applications
Water Purification
Riverse Osmosis
Distillation
