Maintaining the fragile balance of good and bad microorganisms in the GI tract is an ongoing process. This includes keeping the balance of Candida in check. Candida albicans is a yeast that naturally occurs in the body and can live harmoniously in the intestinal tract when populations of “good” bacteria can control the growth of Candida. If Candida is allowed to grow without proper restraint, problems can occur. Candida overgrowth can be triggered by medications, diets high in refined sugars and carbohydrates, and stress.*
Maintaining optimal stomach acidity and supplementing the body with potent antifungal compounds helps to keep Candida populations in the safe range.*
Natural stomach acid secretions tend to decline with age. Acid supplements like betaine HCL help to bring stomach pH to proper levels where potentially harmful pathogens can be destroyed. Stomach acid deficiencies leave the digestive tract susceptible to overgrowth of bacteria and fungi in the intestines.*
Calcium undecylenate is a derivative of undecylenic acid and has broad spectrum antifungal properties. Undecylenic acid works by weakening the cell membrane of fungal Candida, making the pathogen more vulnerable to the body’s disease-fighting immunity scavengers. Calcium undecylenate functions best in an acidic environment.*
Berberine is an alkaloid with antimicrobial, antifungal and immune-boosting characteristics. It helps to maintain a healthy Candida balance by interfering with the ability of fungi to penetrate and adhere to healthy host cells.*
