The trace mineral zinc is an essential micronutrient in nearly all aspects of health, playing key roles in immune function, blood sugar regulation, tissue growth, and more.* The fact that zinc is a co-factor in more than 200 enzymatic reactions in the body makes meeting the recommended daily allowance a crucial factor for optimal health.* Zinc’s antioxidant properties also protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.*
When it comes to absorbing minerals in supplement form, not all preparations are created equally. By nature, minerals are not always absorbed well by the body, but binding them to other compounds can increase the rate of absorption. For instance, when a zinc molecule is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine, the resulting zinc bisglycinate is better absorbed compared to other preparations of zinc such as zinc oxide or zinc picolinate. Zinc bisglycinate doesn’t have to compete with other minerals for absorption in the intestines, thereby improving the chance of efficient uptake in the body.*
