How to Use Iodine

Isabel: True, the govt minimum is too low for most people. The daily recommended amount of iodine for adults is only 150 micrograms (mcg). For supplementation, some iodine-literate doctors recommend much higher amounts, typically ranging from 6 mg (6,000 mcg) up to 50 mg per day, depending on individual needs and under professional supervision. Dr. Clark Store’s 2% Lugol’s Iodine contains 1.25 mg of elemental iodine per drop. One dropper full (about 12 drops) of 2% Lugol’s is equivalent to 12 mg of iodine. To get the standard daily recommended amount of 150 mcg (0.15 mg), you would need about 1/8 of a drop of 2% Lugol’s solution, which is less than a full drop. For higher supplemental doses (such as 6 mg), you could use about 5-8 drops of 2% Lugol’s solution. But always consult with a healthcare professional when supplementing iodine.

I don’t agree with your warning about Lugol’s iodine. The minimum prescribed by the government is way too low for optimal function of the thyroid and other glands in the body. Any extra is excreted by the urine daily. The clinical experience of many doctors supports taking 8 drops of 2% Lugol’s idodine daily.

A landscaper I know is taking high doses of SODIUM iodide Lugol s for his Sporotrichosis.
He’s had it since Jan/Feb and is relieved to find it effective.
