Bromelain, derived from pineapple, is a potent digestive enzyme. Its use in Central and South America for digestive issues can be traced back for centuries. While bromelain is widely used to aid in protein digestion, it also aids circulation, supports immunity, and helps to speed recovery time after injury or surgery.*
Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme found in raw pineapple, and is therefore a vegetarian alternative to animal sourced enzymes. Because it aids in the digestion of protein rich foods, bromelain is commonly used to relieve bloating, gas, and other digestive complaints.*
Bromelain also aids digestion by enhancing the effects of the digestive enzymes trypsin and pepsin. Bromelain has a wide pH range that can function effectively within the acidic environment of the stomach.*
Circulation may be improved with bromelain. The protein fibrin aids in the clotting and thickening of blood. Bromelain breaks down fibrin and acts as a blood thinner, allowing the blood to flow more freely through the circulatory system.*
