Prescription Drugs vs. Holistic Healing — When the Body’s Inner Imbalance Needs to Be Heard
By Erin Biberston, Board-Certified Holistic Health Coach | Restore Vitality
For decades, many have been told that when symptoms show up—high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, gut issues, allergies, mood swings—the job of medicine is to suppress them. But what if those symptoms are not the enemy — what if they are the body’s way of signaling something deeper, something that needs attention?
At Restore Vitality, I believe that symptoms are never random. They are always a signal of the inner imbalance the body is trying to correct. Whether it’s heavy metals, parasites, fungal overload, mold exposure, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, or liver congestion — there is always a reason the body is crying out. And we must listen.
What Dr. Hulda Clark and Hanna Kroeger Taught About Symptoms
Although my phrase is my own, it reflects the teachings of two pioneers whose work has shaped the natural-healing field.
Dr. Hulda Clark taught that:
-
“All illness has a cause.”
-
Clearing parasites, pollutants, solvents, metals, and organ blockages allows the body to heal itself.
-
Symptoms are biological responses that point directly to the body’s distress.
Hanna Kroeger taught that symptoms show where energy is blocked, and that illness stems from seven causes: parasites, toxins, nutritional imbalance, emotions, miasms, electromagnetic stress, and spiritual imbalance.
Both women believed symptoms were meaningful — intelligent — not random.
Prescription Drugs: Their Place, Their Limits, and the Profit That Derailed Natural Healing
There are times when prescription drugs are lifesaving. In acute crises such as dangerous bacterial infections, pharmaceuticals can stabilize the body quickly and prevent severe outcomes. In these moments, they serve an important purpose.
But this is where their role should end — not begin.
Prescription drugs were designed to suppress symptoms, not to correct the inner imbalance the body is trying to heal. They quiet the body’s signals without eliminating the underlying burden. Over time, this creates dependency: one drug to suppress the symptom, another to manage the side effect, and others to support organs stressed by the medication itself.
This pharmaceutical-first model did not develop naturally —
it was created through a shift in American medical history.
How Profit Reshaped American Medicine
In the early 1900s, the United States had a rich landscape of natural healers: herbalists, naturopaths, homeopaths, midwives, energy healers, chiropractors, and drugless practitioners. These approaches were widely trusted and commonly practiced.
But with the Rockefeller-funded Flexner Report of 1910, medical education was standardized around pharmaceutical science. This restructuring led to the closure of thousands of natural-healing schools.
Under this new system:
✔ Only MD-trained, pharmaceutical-aligned doctors — particularly from elite universities like Harvard and Johns Hopkins — were recognized as legitimate healers.
Meanwhile:
✔ Naturopaths
✔ Herbalists
✔ Homeopaths
✔ Midwives
✔ Energy healers
✔ Drugless practitioners
…were publicly labeled:
-
unscientific
-
irregular
-
inferior
-
and often “quacks.”
These labels had nothing to do with results or healing outcomes.
They were about profit:
⭐ Natural medicine cannot be patented.
⭐ Herbal remedies cannot be monopolized.
⭐ Energy healing cannot be monetized by corporations.
Pharmaceuticals, however, can be patented, monetized, standardized, and scaled.
Thus, natural medicine wasn’t abandoned — it was suppressed.
This shift is the foundation for modern beliefs about what “real medicine” is today.
Pharmaceuticals and Heavy Metals: An Overlooked Burden
What many people don’t realize is that several pharmaceutical products — especially injectable medications and certain vaccines — have historically contained or still contain heavy metals such as:
-
Mercury (in the form of thimerosal, used as a preservative)
-
Aluminum (used as an adjuvant to stimulate immune response)
While considered safe in regulated doses, both substances are known neurotoxins that increase stress on the liver, kidneys, immune system, and detox pathways. For individuals already carrying toxic load or compromised detoxification, these additives can intensify symptoms and deepen existing imbalances.
This hidden burden adds another layer to the inner imbalance the body is trying to correct.
What Happens After Strong Drugs: The Microbiome & Organ Overload
Research reveals that pharmaceutical side effects reach far deeper than most people realize. They disrupt:
-
the gut microbiome
-
the immune system
-
nutrient absorption
-
detox pathways
Even a single course of antibiotics can create long-term dysbiosis. Recovery depends on diet, mineral status, and overall health — and some may never return to their original baseline. Many non-antibiotic medications also reshape the gut microbiome in significant ways.
Without restoring the body afterward, the deeper imbalance remains active.
Why Holistic, Gentle Healing Honors the Body’s Design
Holistic healing responds to symptoms differently. Instead of silencing them, we ask:
What is the body trying to correct?
And then we support that correction through:
-
detoxification and drainage
-
mineral balancing
-
microbiome restoration
-
clearing parasites, metals, mold, and fungus
-
emotional and energetic stabilization
-
nourishment and lifestyle shifts
When we clear the inner imbalance the body is trying to correct, we help the body reclaim its God-designed ability to heal.
A Historical Shift: Why “Drugless” Medicine Lost Its Place
Natural medicine did not lose its value.
It lost its visibility.
Before the Flexner reform, herbal medicine, folk healing, naturopathy, and energy work were the backbone of American wellness. Pharmaceutical medicine rose not because it was superior, but because it was financially profitable and tied to powerful institutional funding.
This understanding empowers people to reclaim their health with confidence — not skepticism.
FINAL THOUGHTS
We can continue suppressing symptoms and calling it healing —
or we can listen to what the body is actually communicating.
Everything I do at Restore Vitality centers around helping people discover the inner imbalance the body is trying to correct, supporting the body gently, holistically, and spiritually — and restoring its innate capacity to thrive.
If you would like to discover what inner imbalances your body is trying to correct, you can begin your healing journey with a saliva test.
This test uncovers the hidden burdens affecting your organs, minerals, toxins, pathogens, and energetic patterns.

IMHO, holistic medicine should be the only one offered except for catastrophic issues unless allopathic doctors are made to take 2-4 full years of holistic nutrition and supplement courses, and not RD nonsense! Same with parents and K-12 students. Sadly, a MS degree in holistic nutrition rarely ever teaches much about supplements. I had to learn most of it on my own. However, there are books and doctors to learn from.
